The Manager for R&D Packaging Design & Failure Analysis

As a Manager for R&D Packaging Design & Failure Analysis you will oversee two critical teams: R&D Product Packaging Design and Product Failure Analysis. You'll lead our engineers in crafting sustainable packaging solutions for our products, working closely with cross-functional teams such as Global R&D, marketing, production, and supply chain to ensure compliance with regulations, bolster product safety, and align with our brand's objectives.

In your role as the leader of R&D Product Failure Analysis, you'll spearhead efforts to investigate and dissect product failures, pinpointing root causes and implementing corrective measures. Collaborating closely with teams across R&D, quality assurance, manufacturing, and engineering, you'll drive improvements in product reliability, quality, and performance.

 

This position demands a mix of leadership skills, creative vision, and a robust engineering background coupled with problem-solving skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

Lead and manage a team of engineers providing guidance, training, and support to ensure effective design & development of Product Packaging and the successful investigation and resolution of product failures.

Packaging Development

Drive the development and execution of packaging concepts, from initial idea to final production, ensuring alignment with product specifications, branding guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Innovation and Optimization

Continuously explore new materials, technologies, and design trends to drive innovation in packaging solutions and optimize packaging designs for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and user experience.

Failure Analysis

Oversee the investigation of product failures using a variety of analytical techniques, such as microscopy, spectroscopy, mechanical testing, and electrical analysis, to determine root causes and failure mechanisms.

Root Cause Identification

 Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify root causes of product failures, including design flaws, manufacturing defects, material issues, and environmental factors, and develop corrective and preventive actions to address them.

Data Analysis

Analyze and interpret data from failure investigations to extract meaningful insights, trends, and patterns, and use this information to drive continuous improvement in product design, manufacturing processes, and quality control procedures.

Collaboration

Collaborate with R&D, quality assurance, manufacturing, and engineering teams to proactively identify and address potential failure risks during product development, testing, and production stages.

Continuous Improvement

Continuously evaluate and improve failure analysis methods, techniques, and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of the process.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that failure analysis activities comply with relevant regulatory standards and requirements, such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and FDA regulations.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in a MedTech Research and Development environment, with a proven track record of leading teams and driving successful outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of failure analysis techniques and methodologies
  • Excellent resource management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and manage timelines effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically, analyze data, and draw logical conclusions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, present ideas persuasively, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire and motivate team members, foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, and drive results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
