Image Processing Engineer

Ambu A/S is currently looking for an Image Processing Engineer to be based in Augsburg.

In Ambu we develop single use endoscopes, which brings all the technical challenges of designing a camera system that is both very small and price sensitive. This is where you come in. We need your help to compensate for all the technical challenges these camera systems bring and help us bring the best possible image to doctors. In this position you will join Ambu’s Algorithms team, with the common goal of bringing the best possible image quality and analysis tools to the doctors.

The Algorithms team is currently based entirely at the Ambu headquarter in Ballerup, Denmark, but it is the company strategy to build up and expand our team in Augsburg, Germany. We believe it to be vital that you get integrated into the team quickly, therefore we expect you to start out your journey in Ambu, by spending 3 weeks at the headquarter in Denmark – getting introduced to the company, the work and the team. In addition, we expect that you travel at least 4 times to Denmark during the first year. Your manager will be located in Denmark.

Your daily work will be in coordination with the team to develop and improve algorithms including auto exposure controls, demosaic, denoising, sharpening, scaling etc. and to develop algorithms to remove the artifacts caused by using cheaper single-use camera and electronics. You will be working mostly with classical image processing methods. However, in time, some machine learning can become a part of your role.

You will join a small team of four image processing experts with backgrounds primarily in computer vision. In addition to the image processing engineers, the team also include deep learning and clinical data engineers.

Key responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Research and develop imaging processing algorithms
  • Implement and tune image processing solutions to meet clinical imaging requirements
  • Evaluate image quality through image analysis
  • Work with software developers to integrate and verify algorithms
  • Document imaging algorithms design and perform design reviews.

Suggested candidate profile

Skills and experiences can be earned in many ways, and we understand that the best fit for the role cannot be prescribed on paper. You are however likely to succeed in this position if you have:

  • MSc within software, image processing (computer vision), physics, or similar fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in image processing e.g. denoising, sharpening etc., preferably real time video processing.
  • Experience with image quality analysis
  • Experience with a simulation software such as Matlab, Python, OpenCV, etc.
  • Fluent in English.

It’s a bonus—not a requirement—if you also bring experience in any of these areas:

  • Working with cameras, sensors, or lenses
  • Other computer vision domains, such as Machine Learning
  • Hardware acceleration technologies like FPGAs and GPUs
