Job Title: Government Contract Manager
Reports To: Senior Compliance Officer
Location: Hybrid or Remote (Reporting into Columbia, MD)
Position Summary:
The Government Contract Manager is responsible for establishing, managing, and operationalizing Ambu’s government contracting function, building on an existing compliance foundation to create scalable processes, tools, and governance. This role ensures full compliance with government procurement regulations (e.g., FAR/DFARS), manages contract lifecycle activities, and supports compliant participation in government sales channels (e.g. VA, DoD and other public sector customers) through reseller and distributor partnerships. This person serves as the primary liaison between the company and government contracting officers, and partners closely with internal stakeholders and external resellers/distributors to ensure compliant and effective execution of government-related business. The ideal candidate has expertise in government procurement regulations, medical device industry dynamics and cross-functional collaboration.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Manage the full lifecycle of government contracts from inception forward, including proposal development, negotiation, execution, renewals, amendments and closeout.
• Oversee government-related activities including reseller and distribution agreements supporting public sector sales.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations (FAR/DFARS) and other state and federal contracting rules as well as internal policies.
• Develop compliant and competitive pricing strategies and policies.
• Maintain and update DAPA schedules and other contract vehicles.
• Maintain and update all required registrations (SAM.gov, etc.)
• Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Compliance, Supply Chain, Sales, Quality/Regulatory and Operations teams to ensure contract terms are met.
• Monitor contract performance, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
• Conduct internal compliance and monitoring to identify any potential risks and issues and advise on appropriate mitigation.
• Resolve disputes related to contract interpretation and compliance.
• Build and implement contract management tools, templates, and scalable processes to support a growing government contracting function.
• Provide training and support to internal teams on government sales, processes, pricing rules and contract requirements.
• Respond to audits and other government inquiries.
• Support sales teams by advising on compliant approaches to government opportunities.
• Work with Finance and Compliance to ensure all financial requirements are met.
• Serve as a key internal advisor and partner to stakeholders supporting government-related business, including engagement with resellers and external partners as needed.
• Obtain relevant certifications for government sales (e.g., 889, TAA/BAA)
Qualifications /Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, Public Administration or related field.
• At least 5+ years of relevant experience in government contract management or administration
• Strong knowledge of government contract concepts and FAR/DFARS, government pricing and other government procurement regulations and processes.
• Experience in life science/medical device, or product/commodity-based industries (e.g. consumables, equipment, supplies) preferred.
• Understanding of compliance and risk management in a government contracting environment.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
• Expertise with government procurement systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with contract management tools is a plus.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and build structure in a developing function.
• Strong relationship-building skills with cross functional teams.
• Ability to balance business needs with regulatory compliance, including confidently advising stakeholders on risks and limitations.
• Strong organizational skills.
